Moda e Expressão – Our New Mini-Course Has Arrived!

Bee’s Knees Portuguese has just released its latest vibrant mini-course: Moda e Expressão (Fashion & Expression) — and it’s all about empowering your loved ones to express themselves in Portuguese through clothes, haircuts, and confidence. Whether you're teaching your children, friends, or partner, this new resource is designed to bring creativity, real-life conversation, and lots of fun into your language learning routine.

Why Moda e Expressão for this mini-course?

Everyone has their own style. Some people love fashion and keep up with trends, while others – like me – prefer to be comfortable, quirky, and shop mostly at op shops (second-hand stores). I’ve never been especially into fashion, but I do love how expressive it can be. Most of us have a style, whether intentional or not – and that’s what makes the world more interesting.

What I do find really fun is chatting with shop assistants and hairdressers in other languages. These everyday encounters are not just great language practice – they’re also fantastic opportunities to connect with locals and get cultural insights. That’s why shopping for clothes, or swapping clothes, in Brazil or Portugal is such a rich and enjoyable experience.

Talking with friends in Portuguese about clothes you see in a brochure, a shop window, or what someone’s wearing can be a fun way to practise. Being able to describe clothing and chat about fashion in Portuguese is such a cool skill to have!

This mini-course is about more than just vocabulary for clothes and haircuts. It’s about expression – how we express ourselves through appearance, through language, and through our emotions. Whether you're shopping, swapping, or styling, this is a lively and practical way to practise Portuguese.

One of my favourite challenges is asking for a haircut in another language. What could go wrong?! Sure, it can be a bit nerve-wracking – but your hair grows back! It’s a fantastic opportunity to stretch your skills. Say the wrong word, and you might end up with a completely different look than you expected – but it’s all part of the experience. Learning how to ask for the cut you want, and how to talk with your hairdresser or barber, gives you confidence and empowers you with real-life Portuguese.

These days, hairdressers often speak directly to children and ask them what they’d like – something that didn’t happen when I was little. Back then, my mum would speak to the hairdresser for me! That’s another reason this topic is great – it gives children the language skills to speak for themselves, to express their preferences, and to feel confident.

At Bee’s Knees Portuguese, we love to think outside the box. Our mini-courses are designed to make language learning meaningful, practical, and memorable for the whole family. We believe learning Portuguese should be full of colour, creativity, and connection – just like fashion itself.
